The Bird That Copies Everything
Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth! Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy.
Psalm 100:1–2 (NLT)
In the forests of Australia there lives one of the most amazing singers in the whole world — the lyrebird. And here's the incredible part: the lyrebird can copy almost any sound it hears!
It listens carefully to the other birds in the forest, and then it sings their songs right back — so perfectly that you can hardly tell the difference! It can copy lots of different birds, one after another, and even other surprising sounds it hears. It's like the forest is full of music, and the lyrebird has learned all of it. When the lyrebird opens its beak, you never quite know what wonderful sound is going to come out!
Isn't it wonderful that God made a bird that listens to the whole world and then sings it all back? The Bible says, "Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth! Worship the Lord with gladness." The lyrebird gathers up the sounds of God's world and turns them into its very own song. And God made you to sing to Him too — to take all the good things you've heard and seen, and turn them into joy and praise lifted right back up to Him.
God loves a joyful song. Like the little lyrebird, you can listen to the wonderful world He made and sing it all back to Him with gladness. Your song doesn't have to be perfect — it just has to be happy and true.
Prayer
Thank You, God, for the lyrebird that listens to the whole forest and sings it all back! You made a world full of beautiful sounds, and You made me to sing to You too. Help me take the good things I see and hear and turn them into a joyful song for You. Thank You that my song makes You glad. Your glory is endless. Amen.
