Birdsong in Space
Sing a new song to the Lord! Let the whole earth sing to the Lord!
Psalm 96:1 (NLT)
You know how, early in the morning, the birds outside start singing all together — a whole chorus of chirps and whistles? It's one of the prettiest sounds there is. Now here's something incredible: there's a kind of "birdsong" happening way up in space, all around the Earth — but it's not made by birds at all!
The space around our planet is full of invisible waves. We can't hear them with our ears. But scientists sent special spacecraft up there to listen, and when they turned those space-waves into sound we can hear, it came out sounding amazingly like a morning full of birds singing and chirping! It's so much like real birdsong that scientists named it the "chorus." The sky around the Earth has been singing this whole time, and we never knew until we built the right ears to hear it.
The Bible says, "Let the whole earth sing to the Lord!" And it turns out even the space around the earth is full of something like song! All of creation — the birds, the oceans, the stars, even the empty-looking sky — seems to be singing to the God who made it. He is so wonderful that everything He made joins in praising Him.
If even the sky is singing to God, He must be very wonderful indeed. And the same God that the whole creation is singing to knows your voice and loves to hear you sing to Him, too — even just a little song from your heart.
Prayer
Thank You, God, that even the space around the earth sings a chorus like the morning birds! All of creation praises You — the birds, the oceans, even the sky. You are so wonderful that everything You made joins in. Thank You that You love to hear me sing to You, too. Your glory is endless. Amen.
